Who we are
Principal Lawyer
Colin Broadbent LLB (Hons) PGDipPrac (Oxon)
I completed a Bachelor of Laws Degree in 1995, and then undertook the Legal Practice Course and two years of Articles before being admitted in 1998 as a Solicitor to the Roll in England and Wales.
Prior to that I have worked in a number of industry sectors including construction, manufacturing, hospitality and retail. This has given me a good understanding of the way different businesses function, so that I can help them to achieve their goals. As a lawyer, I worked in the UK in private practice, then in-house as an advocate representing clients in Industrial Tribunals and Courts for a specialist Employment Practices Company, IRPC.
In 2002 I moved to Australia with my wife and worked for the National Retail Association advising members on industrial and employment practices and strategies, negotiating and drafting Enterprise Agreements and contracts as well as advocating for members in the Australian Industrial Relations Commission, Federal Court and Discrimination Tribunals Australia-wide.
In 2005 I moved back to Private Practice as a Senior Associate at Wisewolds Lawyers in Melbourne, still focused on employment law, industrial relations and commercial matters, including dispute resolution, before moving to Marsh and Maher in 2008, becoming a Partner in 2010, where I remained until starting CJB Law in June 2020.
I represent numerous clients in road and rail transport, hospitality, retail, service industries and in the medical and health sector and enjoy being a hands-on lawyer getting to know my clients and the businesses they operate.
I am here to help you as you need, and all you have to do is ask.
